KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz is prepared to face court action after the elder brother of the late Teoh Beng Hock filed a notice of motion to cite him for contempt of court.
Nazri said it was Teoh Meng Kee's personal right to file the notice to have him committed to prison for contempt of court for calling Thai pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand a liar and that she had lied in the inquest (into Beng Hock's death).
Last Friday, Meng Kee filed the notice of motion through Messrs Karpal Singh & Co at the registrar's office of the Shah Alam magistrate's court, under Clause 26 of the Subordinate Courts Act 1948.
"(I am) ready anytime. This is a very small matter, much more minor than a mosquito bite. No problem," Nazri told Bernama at the parliament lobby today.
He also dismissed Meng Kee's claim that his statement was tantamount to interfering in the judicial administration pertaining to the inquest.
"We don't know yet whether it's a murder or suicide case," Nazri said.
The inquest is to determine the cause of death of Beng Hock, 30, whose body was found on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam on July 16 last year after making a statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's Selangor office, which is located in the same building.
Beng Hock was the political secretary of Selangor state executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah.
